Presidency Source Speaks on Buhari’s Health

According to a source within the Presidency, President Muhammadu Buhari may hand over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo if his health does not improve soon. The source revealed that the President has already considered stepping aside if his condition prevents him from performing his duties effectively.

Extended Medical Stay Raises Concerns

Meanwhile, many Nigerians, including some of the President’s supporters, have expressed concern over his prolonged stay in the United Kingdom. The President has spent a large part of the year abroad while receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Buhari Allegedly Set a Personal Timeline

Speaking to PUO Reports, the source explained that President Buhari does not intend to cling to power if his health fails him. According to the source, the President set a personal deadline for his recovery. If he fails to recover fully by that date, he plans to submit a resignation letter.

The source also urged Nigerians who support the President’s anti-corruption and reform agenda to continue praying for his recovery. He added that losing the President would hurt the nation, especially as some critics openly wish him harm.

Resignation Allegedly Considered Before UK Trip

PUO Reports further claimed that before President Buhari left for medical treatment on May 7, he had planned to submit a resignation letter to the National Assembly. However, a retired general from Taraba State reportedly discouraged him from taking that step.

PDP Reacts to Resignation Speculation

Reacting to the reports, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport and PDP chieftain, stated that the President does not need to resign. According to him, illness is not a deliberate act, and every human being falls sick at some point.

Babatope also revealed that the PDP would prefer President Buhari to return and contest the 2019 election. He explained that his party believes it can defeat the ruling APC at the polls. He therefore described calls for Buhari’s resignation as unnecessary and unhelpful.
