About 300 prisoners have been declared missing by the Nigerian government after an attack on Kuje Prison on Tuesday despite early warning.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack began around 10 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour before security forces repelled the terrorists who had entered the building with explosives.
“The occupants here are 994, we know they are Boko Haram terrorists who came specifically for their plotters. Many of them have returned, some have been taken out of the bushes where they were hiding. We have recovered about 300 of the 600 prisoners who escaped from prison,” Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Shuaibu Belgore told reporters Wednesday.
Kuje Custodial Centre is located in Kuje Area Council of Abuja.
