Lagos Government: No Going Back on Relocation of Computer Village to Achieve Ikeja Model City Master Plan

Computer Village Sealed for Violating Laws
On Tuesday, the Lagos State government sealed the popular Computer Village and spare parts shops at First Gate in Ikeja Local Government Area. The government acted because the shops violated environmental laws and Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) provisions. This step aligns with efforts to implement the Ikeja Model City Master Plan.
Governor Ambode Commits to Ikeja Model City
Steve Ayorinde, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said Governor Akinwunmi Ambode wants to make Ikeja a model city. Therefore, the government will relocate Computer Village to Katangowa in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area. This move follows the master plan designed to solve infrastructural challenges and create a more organized, habitable city.
Katangowa Project Near Completion
Ayorinde stated that the Katangowa project is in its final stage. The government is working hard to complete the relocation efficiently. He added that the Ikeja Model City Master Plan assigns the current Computer Village site for residential use. By following this plan, the government aims to improve urban living standards.
No Unauthorized ICT Mall
The Commissioner clarified that the government has not approved the construction of any ICT-specialized mall beside the new Ikeja Bus Terminal. Such a project would contradict the city’s regeneration plan. The government met with executives of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN) to confirm its commitment to the relocation plan.
Supporting Entrepreneurs While Enforcing the Law
Ayorinde urged the public to ignore rumors about a false ICT mall. He emphasized that Lagos State government values the entrepreneurial spirit of hardworking individuals. The administration will support businesses while enforcing the Ikeja Model City Master Plan and following urban planning laws.
