Welcome to the information society. Just yesterday, Senator Rochas Okorocha was arrested by the EFCC at his residence in Abuja. According to eyewitnesses, the arrest was quite violent at one point. As seen on the video, the EFCC had to fire shots to scare away onlookers for the arrest to be successful.
The former governor is under investigation by the anti-fraud agency for allegedly stealing state funds while in office. The current Senator Okorocha is also a presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
Why was the formal governor of Imo State Senator Rochas Okorocha arrested?
The anti-fraud agency said Okorocha had jumped a bail granted to him and also escaped his corruption trial.
“Under the circumstances, the commission has no choice but to arrest and try Senator Okorocha,” the EFCC said.
The EFCC had on January 24, 2022, filed a 17-count charge against Okorocha for misappropriation of public funds and properties amounting to N2.9 billion.
Baba later told the press that this act is to prevent him from participating in the pre-selection of APC presidential candidates.
