Valentine’s Day and it’s importance
Valentine’s Day is an annual festival when we celebrate romantic love, friendship and admiration. It is celebrated on the 14th of February by sending messages of love and affection to partners, families and friends. A time when couples send Valentine’s Day cards and flowers and spend special time together to honour their love for each other.
How valentine came to place
Valentine’s Day was named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century. At the time of Valentine’s life, many Romans were converting to Christianity, but the Emperor Claudius II was a pagan and created strict laws about for Christians. Claudius believed that Roman soldiers should be completely devoted to Rome and therefore passed a law preventing them from marrying.
St Valentine began to marry these soldiers in secret Christian ceremonies and this was the beginning of his reputation for believing in the importance of love.
Eventually Valentine was found out and jailed for his crimes against Claudius. In the prison, Valentine cared for his fellow prisoners and also his jailor’s blind daughter. Legend has it that Valentine cured the girl’s blindness and that his final act before being executed was to write her a love message signed ‘from your Valentine’. Valentine was executed on 14 February. And this was how valentine’s day came to place that every February 14, people across the world exchange candy, flowers and gifts with their loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine.
It is considered to the best day to express your love and care for your special one or even express your feelings to the one you love.
Importance of Valentine’s Day
On Valentine’s Day, it is imperative to put aside our busy schedule and create quality time with your partner because that’s where you get an opportunity to speak from your heart about different things in the name of love, such as your achievements and the future plans of your relationship. Also reminisce about the good memories that will last forever.
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: His love endures forever."
The day is not all about buying presents for each other, wearing red and white and going out to a ‘special dinner’, it’s about more than that. You need to spice up your relationship by creating new sparks that can play a very crucial role in taking your relationship to another level.
Valentine’s Day provides us a sense of strengthened connection and security in relationships. It may also be a source of pressure, as we are culturally and socially influenced to write sentimental cards, buy expensive presents, make reservations at extravagant restaurants, etc.
And romance might be a challenge when people have tight deadlines at work, are stuck in traffic on the way to a date or struggling with a family health matter. With this in mind, it is important that partners ask themselves individually and as a team what Valentine’s Day means for the couple.
This way, they can choose whether or how they would like to experience the holiday in a way that fosters connection, safety, and joy in the relationship. Cooking together at home, planning a vacation, or rescheduling Valentine’s Day plans to a different date are some ideas that might counter rushing and anxiety.
It might also give couples an opportunity to be present and enjoy each other while making the holiday their own.
Valentines day and its importance in relationships
it is important to celebrate your relationship daily but making time for dates throughout the month can dramatically change the dynamic in a relationship. If the focus is on one holiday, it doesn’t’t allow the focus to be on the relationship but more so on the holiday celebration. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to communicate with your partner about each other’s expectations. There isn’t one right way to celebrate.
You run the risk of major disappointment if you expect a lavish celebration, but fail to let your partner know. Having an open dialogue allows for compromise, while still leaving room for the element of surprise. And that kind of communication is a great habit to get into.
It encourages us to look for ways to celebrate their relationship throughout the year with small romantic gestures, dates and overall goodwill towards each other.
