Man kills mother-in-law and worshipper in Lagos church

A 38-year-old man, Jimoh Jogbo, stormed an unspecified church in the Lekki area of Lagos and allegedly attacked his mother-in-law, resulting in her death.

Another worshipper, Jamiu Sakire, 40, who tried to raise the alarm, was also killed by the suspect.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect had assaulted his wife’s 14-year-old younger sister.

The mother-in-law reportedly refused to respond to the suspect’s pleas, insisting instead that the case be reported to police so that justice could be done.

The attack on her is said to have been an obvious attempt to stop her from carrying out her threat.

The suspect’s wife, Modupe Bolaji, reported the matter to police officers at the Akodo Division.

She said her husband left their home at Olodana Street, Orofun Town, Ibeju Lekki, and stormed into the church at about 1 a.m. while they were preparing for a prayer session.

She gave the identity of her mother as Fatimo Muskilu, 49

She said, “He hit her with a hard object. He also attacked Jamiu, who saw him and tried to scream. Jamiu was dead on the spot”.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. He said it occurred on November 14, 2022.

According to him, “The 49-year-old woman was rushed to Akodo General Hospital where her death was confirmed.

The scene was visited by Akodo Division police officers. The bodies showed traces of violence and were deposited at Epe General Hospital

The suspect was arrested and will be transferred to SCIID for further investigation
