The federal government on Friday stood firm on a 240 percent increase in electricity prices for category ‘A’ electricity consumers despite calls for a rollback.
It was also announced that electricity subsidy will be cut short and the change is to receive a good electricity bill within three years.
However, this decision was not approved by the Nigerian Labor Congress, which asked the government to prepare for the consequences of the tax increase, described the tax increase as a crime and was not satisfied, saying the government was willing to listen.
The World Bank and IMF need to be prepared to suffer the consequences. National Library Information Director Benson Upah said on Saturday’s PUNCH: “We have said before that this increase is unreasonable and unpopular. So if the government chooses to continue to increase the interest or is told to do something bad, I believe in the consequences of such evil.” We will be prepared in the same way.
