Alhaji Kashim Imam, a former Parliamentary Liaison Officer to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, is helping flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State. The flood destroyed 23,000 homes, displaced 414,000 people, and claimed over 30 lives. Critical infrastructure, including roads, healthcare facilities, and schools, was also heavily damaged. Nearly one million residents lost their livelihoods due to the devastation.

Imam, known for his philanthropy, relocated to Maiduguri to oversee food distribution in camps for the displaced. He pledged to provide 200,000 food packs, beginning with 6,000 meals a day and aiming for 10,000. The immediate focus is on providing food and water, as many victims had gone without meals for days.
His daughter, Fatima Imam, shared details of the effort. The family prepares meals daily, cooking up to 20 bags of rice to feed the victims. They work long hours, ensuring that food reaches those in need.
Imam plans both short-term and long-term interventions for the flood victims. He expressed sorrow over the tragedy, noting that the disaster hit unexpectedly in the middle of the night, catching many residents unprepared. The scale of the damage is overwhelming, and the loss of life is still being counted.
The flood affected 11 of Maiduguri’s 15 wards, leaving thousands trapped and homeless. Most victims escaped with only the clothes they were wearing. Despite the challenges, Imam remains focused on easing the suffering of his community through ongoing relief efforts.
