HURIWA Slams Justice Ariwoola CJN Tenure the Worst
Justice Ariwoola has officially retired after reaching the age of retirement. However, HURIWA contends that his leadership significantly tarnished the credibility of the judiciary. The association, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, pointed out troubling instances of nepotism during Ariwoola’s tenure, including the appointment of his brother to a high-ranking position within the National Judicial Council (NJC), raising concerns about the integrity of the NJC’s operations.
Moreover, HURIWA condemned the appointment of Ariwoola’s son, Olukayode Ariwoola Jr., as a judge of the Federal High Court, a move that sparked public outcry. The association warned that such actions set a dangerous precedent, encouraging other judicial leaders to follow suit.
This culture of favoritism has dire implications for the Nigerian judiciary. A federal court judge recently commented on how difficult it is to become a Federal High Court judge in Nigeria without jctions to influential individuals, underscoring the pervape corruption in the judicial appointment process.
