Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, recently announced that the Abuja-Kaduna rail line now generates one million Naira daily. Consequently, he donates this amount every day to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

This declaration is notable, as Amaechi’s successor, Governor Nyesom Wike, frequently accused the Minister of corruption during his tenure. The Minister’s recent statement highlights a significant financial achievement despite these accusations.
Improved Patronage Boosts Revenue
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Benin, Amaechi explained that the daily revenue increase stems from higher passenger patronage. He said, “We are spending N56 million per month, but we were getting back only N16 million. Now, we make N30 million, which is one million Naira per day. This improvement started last month due to more passengers using the rail line because of road kidnappings.”
Reinvestment for Quality Service
Amaechi added that the government uses the previously generated revenue to maintain coaches and logistics. However, he noted that the arrival of new coaches will demand additional resources to ensure quality service and meet customer expectations.
