Eight Libya-bound human trafficking victims rescued in Jigawa

Eight Libya-bound victims of human trafficking have been rescued by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Jigawa State.

The NIS Comptroller in the state, Ahmad Bagari,  said the victims, consisting of five males and three females, were rescued along the Kaya-Daurawa-Roni link road on Sunday.

The victims hailed from Abia, Edo, Imo, and Ogun states, while the driver of the vehicle hailed from Achilafiya town, in the Yankwashi Local Government Area of the state.

Stating that the victims were rescued on their way to the Niger Republic, en-route Libya, Bagari identified the vehicle used in conveying them as a Saloon Golf vehicle with a number plate, YEN-07 CE Bayelsa.

The victims were  specified as Nosa Isaac, 45, Emanuel Ogur, 37, Abdulwasiu Oladokun, 36, Blessing John, 28, Etiosa Henry, 24, Osagie Francis, 20, Faith Moses, 20, and Success Jacob, 19.

He said the victims mostly traveled without an agent, adding that all transactions were made on phone with the syndicate.

“Surely, they are influenced by friends and with the knowledge of their parents/guardians,” Bagari added

The Comptroller revealed that the NIS Comptroller General, Idris Jere, instructed that the victims be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters.

“It is imperative to advise parents/guardians and the general public to watch over their children/wards and instill patriotism in them to stay in their country of origin and build it to greater heights,” Bagari added.
