Charly Boy, Leader of the ‘Resign or Resume’ Protest Group, Attacked by Thugs in Abuja Market

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, was reportedly attacked by thugs at the busy Wuse Market in Abuja on Tuesday. The entertainer and activist has been one of the major voices calling for President Muhammadu Buhari to return to the country or step down from office.
The #ResumeOrResign movement began its protest last week. The group argued that the president, who has been in the United Kingdom on medical leave, should either resume work or resign so that the country can move forward.
According to Deji Adeyanju, another leader of the protest, trouble started when they visited the market to speak with traders. He said in a series of tweets that a group of youths attacked them shortly after they arrived.
He wrote:
“We went to Wuse Market to mobilise people for our event tomorrow. A regular face at Unity Fountain brought thugs to attack us.”
He added that this was not the first time they were attacked. He said the group also faced violence at Unity Fountain on Tuesday.
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: His love endures forever."
The attackers damaged Charly Boy’s car during the incident. Adeyanju described the situation as unfortunate and blamed the government for tolerating such behaviour.
He also claimed that he saw wraps of money being shared among pro-Buhari protesters at Unity Fountain. According to him, this act goes against the government’s claim of fighting corruption.
