Bayelsa State, ANA, and NGO Organize Secondary Schools Essay Competition

Competition Aims to Unite Public and Private Schools
The Robert Sunday Iworiso Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has launched an essay competition for all Senior Secondary Schools in Bayelsa State. The competition will bring together both public and private schools to select a winner.
Partnership with Education Ministry and ANA
According to the NGO, it is is organized in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education and the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). It will involve about 100 students from both private and public secondary schools across the state.
Prizes and Recognition for Winners
Mr. Michael Afenfia, Chairman of the Organising Committee, announced in Yenagoa that the winner will receive one million Naira along with additional consolation prizes. This initiative aims to recognize and reward academic excellence among Bayelsa youths.
Discovering Young Talent
Mr. John Iworiso, Director of the Foundation, said the competition seeks to discover and nurture talented students in the state. He stated, “This competition is one of several ways we hope to uncover untapped geniuses from the creeks and farmlands of Bayelsa and introduce them to the world. We want to inspire these young minds to see themselves as change agents and the leaders of tomorrow.”
Participation Details
Afenfia, also the speechwriter to Governor Seriake Dickson, explained that about 20 of the 100 expected participants will come from private schools across the state. The first edition of the competition is scheduled for August 22 and 23.
Theme of the Competition
The theme for this year’s is: “Good Leadership: A Prerequisite for Global Relevance.” It emphasizes the importance of leadership in shaping the next generation and promoting Nigeria’s relevance on the global stage.
