The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced that all recreational parks in the territory will be required to close at 7 p.m. daily beginning today, in accordance with the administration’s policy.
The Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, told reporters at the weekend that the enforcement of the policy, which is concerned with cleanliness, will lead to compliance.
Attah said the parks policy is very clear and that the coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has clarified the issue with the director of parks and recreation.
“The Minister of FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello has given the marching orders to implement the parks policy and it is clear that from 7pm all parks must remain closed, that is what the parks policy says and with the kind permission of the minister, from tomorrow, Monday, all parks should remain closed from 7pm.
“The parks that refused to close at that time will be visited by a team to make sure that the parks are in compliance. I have received calls from some of them that people want to enjoy after the closure from work until late at night, but I say no.
“Anything you want to enjoy should be done early enough so that park officials have until 7 p.m., when the park closes, to clean it up and get it ready for the next day. The city will have to adjust to the parks closing at 7 p.m. when it’s dark, everyone can adjust,” he said.
