Adamawa State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Borno to the northwest, Gombe to the west, and Taraba to the southwest while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon. 

Adamawa State is one of the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Adamawa state is located in the northeast of Nigeria. The capital of Adamawa State is Yola and is the largest city in the state. Adamawa itself is one of the largest states in all of Nigeria. When Taraba State was carved out of Gongola State in 1991, the geographical unit of Gongola State was renamed Adamawa State. The state was divided into four administrative units: Adamawa, Michika, Ganye, Mubi and Numan. Adamawa is home to the famous American University of Nigeria in Yola and other institutions such as Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola and Adamawa State University of Nursing and Midwifery. Adamawa is bordered by Borno State to the northwest, Gombe State to the west, Taraba State to the southwest and Cameroon to the east. Adamawa State is a mountainous country crisscrossed by large river valleys

The main occupation of the inhabitants of Adamawa is agriculture. The main crops grown in Adamawa State are cotton and groundnuts, while maize, sweet potatoes, cassava, guineamais, millet and rice are grown as food crops. The inhabitants of the villages located on the banks of the rivers engage in fishing. The Fulanis, another important ethnic group in Adamawa State, engage in cattle raising. FUFORE

Fufore is both a town and a Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

DEMSA

Demsa is one of the Local Government Area of Adamawa State located in Demsa. Demsa is located on the Benue River. The local government has a population of about 180,251 people. The major ethnic groups in Demsa are Bachama, Batta, Yandang, Bille, Mbula, Maya, Bare and the Fulani tribe.

GANYE

Ganye is a city and a Local Government Area in Adamawa State. Ganye later became the Local Government Areas of Jada and Toungo. The soil of Ganye is clayey. This makes it fertile and very suitable for agriculture and also makes Ganye the centre of agriculture in Adamawa State. Ganye holds the title of “food basket of the state”.

GOMBI

The town of Gombi is the headquarters of the local government of Gombi Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

GIREI

Girei is located on the Benue River. The predominant ethnic tribe in the Girei region is the Fulbe or Fulani. The main occupation of the inhabitants of Girei is agriculture and livestock. Girei is also home to Radio Gotel, one of the most popular radio stations in the state.

GUYUK

Guyuk is a city and local government area in Adamawa State. The local ethnic group in Guyuk is the Longuda people. Guyuk has numerous limestone deposits and is located on the road between Numanand Biu.

LAMURDE

Lamurde is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State inhabited predominantly by the Bwatiye (Bachama) people.

JADA

Jada is a town and Local Government Area that grew out of Ganye Local Government Area. Jada is part of Chamba land while Ganye (the food basket of Adamawa State) remains the mother of all Chamba land. Ganye, Jada, Toungo and part of Mayo Belwa are other areas inhabited by the Chamba people (Samba or Sama).

MADAGALI

Madagali is also known as Madagli. It is a town and local government area in Adamawa State. Madagali is located on the border with Cameroon. The area was created in 1991 when Taraba State was created from Gongola State. There are many ethnic groups in Madagali, but Marghi, Maffa and Fulani are the main ethnic languages. The most important villages in Madagali are Gulak and Shuwa villages. Madagali is abundantly blessed with fertile land, so agriculture is the main source of income for the inhabitants.

MAYO-BELWA

Mayo-Belwa is one of the Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.

MAIHA

Maiha is a town located on the border with Cameroon.

MICHIKA

Michika Local Government is located in the town of Michika in Adamawa State. The local government was established in 1976 and is located in the northern part of Adamawa State. Michika borders the Republic of Cameroon to the east, Madagali Local Government to the north, and Askira/Uba Local Government in Borno State to the west. Michika is a cosmopolitan town with many businesses such as bank branches, two colleges and many secondary schools.

The municipality is right on the border of the famous tourist town of Mcedigyi in Cameroon. Michika is also the fourth largest and most populous town in Adamawa State. The main ethnic group and language in Michika is the Kamwe people and Vecemwe (the Kamwe language).

MUBI SOUTH

Mubi South is a Local Government Area in the state of Adamawa, Nigeria.

MUBI NORTH

Mubi North is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Nigeria. Adamawa State University and Federal Polytechnic Mubi are located in the city of Mubi.

NUMAN

Numan is also called Nomweh, meaning hilltop. It is a town and a Local Government Area in Adamawa State. It is a port city located at the confluence of the Benue and Gongola Rivers. The main ethnic group in Numan town is the Bwatiye (Bachama) people. The Bwatiye people are known for being undefeated warriors in the past. Adamawa State Polytechnic is located in the town of Numan.

SONG

Song is a town and local government area in the Nigerian state of Adamawa with an estimated population of about 25,000.

SHELLENG

Shelleng is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

TOUNGO

Tuongo is a town and local government area in Adamawa State.

YOLA SOUTH

Yola South is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State.

YOLA NORTH

Yola North is a Local Government Area in Adamawa State. Yola North is a suburb of Yola South.
