Abuja woman commits suicide, corpse, baby found in bush

An unidentified nursing mother committed suicide and abandoned her child in a bush where her body was discovered on Suzuka Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory.

PUNCH Metro learned that an empty bottle of insecticide was found next to her body in the bush on Monday.

A resident, who identified himself only as Nnaji for security reasons, told our correspondent that the victim’s body was found when passersby heard her baby crying in the bush.

Nnaji said, “The corpse of a middle-aged woman was seen in a bush in our area on Monday night. A two-year-old girl was sitting next to her crying.

It was even her cry that attracted passersby to the scene. When we got there, we found an empty insecticide bottle next to her; her body smelled of the insecticide. She is not a well-known person in the area, and no one knows what prompted her to commit this act

FCT Police spokesman, DSP Josephine Adeh, when asked, said the body had been deposited in a morgue, adding that the child was in the custody of the police while efforts were being made to trace the relatives of the woman.

She said, “I can confirm to you that this case was reported in our department in Iddo. The body was deposited at the mortuary of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.
We cannot jump to the conclusion that she died from a sniper, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the true cause of death.”
