PDP Should Stop Insulting the Sensibilities of Nigerians, BMSG Says

The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has strongly criticised comments made by officials of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during its non-elective convention held last weekend in Abuja. According to the group, the PDP repeatedly claimed achievements that did not occur in its 16 years in power. Therefore, BMSG described those claims as another attempt to insult the sensibilities of Nigerians.
PDP’s Claims on Fighting Corruption Questioned
One major point of contention, the group noted, was the PDP’s assertion that it fought corruption while in power. BMSG argued that recent recoveries by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) exposed the scale of corruption under previous administrations. Moreover, the group highlighted that a single individual allegedly stole enough money to build several airports, multiple rail lines, and large-scale agricultural projects that could have created countless jobs for Nigerian youths.
“This is money stolen by just one person during the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Only God knows what other officials did during those 16 years when the PDP held Nigerians to ransom,” the statement read.
Massive Looting and Missing Funds
Furthermore, BMSG insisted that EFCC recoveries revealed widespread looting. They stated that Nigerians now fully understand what happened to their commonwealth. The group also reminded the public of a major allegation by the former Central Bank Governor, Lamido Sanusi, who claimed that $20 billion went missing from the national treasury. Instead of investigating the claim, the administration at the time removed him from office.
BMSG Blames PDP for Economic Hardship
According to the group, the economic recession and hardships experienced in recent years stemmed from what they described as poor governance by the PDP. They argued that President Muhammadu Buhari has been working tirelessly to correct those long-standing issues. Additionally, BMSG pointed out that illegal activities at Nigeria’s ports during past administrations caused the country to lose billions of dollars. Corruption within the Nigeria Customs Service also contributed to massive revenue leakage.
Even more shocking, the group added, was the revelation that despite claims of spending trillions of naira to improve electricity supply, Nigerians remained largely in darkness.
Failures in Governance and Misplaced Priorities
BMSG expressed disbelief that the PDP could still present itself as one of the best administrations in Nigeria’s history. They questioned how a government that once included items like toothpicks and other luxury goods on its import lists could claim such success.
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: His love endures forever."
They also criticised the national conference organised under the Jonathan administration. According to them, the conference consumed billions of naira even though the administration never intended to implement its recommendations.
BMSG Highlights Achievements Under President Buhari
In contrast, the group praised several economic reforms introduced during President Buhari’s tenure. These include the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), improved revenue generation by both the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and a rise in Foreign Direct Investment. Additionally, BMSG pointed out increases in the nation’s foreign reserves, the excess crude account, and the sovereign wealth fund.
However, the group admitted that despite these gains, many Nigerians remain unconvinced—partly because critics claim the president spends too much time in the United Kingdom due to his health challenges.
