The Delta State Police Command has arrested Meshack Sinuphro, a suspected car thief who stole a ₦55 million Mercedes Benz SUV in Abuja.
Meshack posed as a buyer at a car dealership in Abuja. During the test drive, he drove off with the vehicle and vanished. The car dealer quickly reported the theft to the police on July 3, 2023, after the incident occurred on June 30, 2023.
Police Recover the Stolen Benz
Acting on intelligence, operatives from the CP-Decoy Squad began a manhunt immediately. Around 1:15 a.m. on July 3, the team stormed Ughelli town in Delta State. They found the Mercedes Benz SUV abandoned in a bush along Oteri Road, near Doctors Quarters in Ughelli North.
The prompt response of the officers stopped the suspect from selling or dismantling the luxury car.
Suspect Caught in Edo State
The Delta Police Command confirmed that their team later arrested Meshack Sinuphro in Benin City, Edo State. Investigators say he specializes in pretending to be a buyer before stealing cars.
DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesperson, said Meshack will be handed over to the FCT Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Police Warn Car Dealers to Be Alert
The Delta Police urged Nigerians, especially car dealers, to stay alert when dealing with potential buyers. They also reminded citizens to report suspicious movements or crimes immediately.
DSP Edafe assured the public that the police will continue to track and arrest criminals across the country.
