Lagos Police Arrest “Onyabo” After Violent Robberies

The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested Nurudeen Kazeem, a notorious 27-year-old robber popularly known as Onyabo. He was caught during a robbery in the LASU–Iyana Iba area. Residents fear him because of his involvement in violent crimes and his ties to the Eiye Confraternity.

How the Police Caught Him

RRS operatives detained Nurudeen and his accomplice, Wilfred Ehis, 30, who claimed to be a fake lawyer named “Barrister Deji.” Ehis admitted to hiring Nurudeen for his “fearless and ruthless” nature. He revealed that Nurudeen helped him rob delivery men of expensive phones.

“The man I used before was too scared to act when people were around. So I contacted Nurudeen. He never hesitated,” Ehis said.

Their Robbery Strategy

Ehis ordered pricey smartphones online, using a false identity. He sent delivery men to hidden areas near LASU–Iyana Iba. As soon as they arrived, Nurudeen and his gang appeared on motorcycles. They pointed guns at their victims, stole the goods, and escaped after firing shots into the air.

Several sellers claimed they lost phones worth ₦600,000 to ₦800,000 each time.

“He ordered phones we didn’t even have in stock. We took loans to get the items, thinking we’d make the money back. But we lost everything,” a victim said.

Murders and Cult Links

Nurudeen admitted to killing two people. He said he carried out his first murder during his cult initiation. He shot a man in a beer parlor. Later, he killed a member of a rival cult, using both a gun and a machete.

He also revealed that he once shot a police officer in the leg to escape arrest.

What Police Recovered

Police arrested other gang members, including:

Psalm 121:7-8
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: His love endures forever."
  • Yusuph Bello, 33 — He stored guns, axes, and machetes for the gang.

  • Sunday Hassan, 26 — He rode the motorcycle used during robberies.

Nurudeen only entered Lagos through remote water channels. He lived on a secluded island between Lagos and Ogun States.

All gang members are now in custody at SARS, Ikeja, awaiting trial.
