The Lagos State Police Command has transferred the investigation of a Redeemed Church pastor’s kidnapping to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The transfer aims to ensure the case receives a detailed and urgent investigation.
According to Premium Times, police confirmed in a phone conversation that SARS will now take the lead. Ms. Badmus, a police spokesperson, stated that the case is under a discreet investigation to avoid tipping off the suspects. The Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, ordered the case transferred so the kidnappers can be apprehended quickly and the pastor rescued safely.
The pastor, Olukayode Bajomo, was reportedly kidnapped before Sunday service began. The kidnappers entered the church at Santos Bus Stop, Isawo, Ikorodu, carrying Bibles to blend in with church members. Witnesses said the suspects approached Pastor Bajomo directly, brandished guns, and forced him into a waiting vehicle.
Authorities are pointing fingers at Ijaw militants, who have previously carried out several kidnappings in Nigeria. Police officers are investigating all leads, including the movements of suspects in nearby communities. Residents have been asked to report any suspicious vehicles or individuals to the nearest police station.
Church members expressed shock and concern over the incident. Many described Pastor Bajomo as dedicated and kind-hearted, noting that he often engages with parishioners before and after service. The church urged members to remain calm and continue their worship while authorities handle the investigation.
This incident highlights the growing issue of kidnappings in Lagos. Police continue to advise the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. The hope is that with SARS handling the case, Pastor Bajomo will be safely recovered, and the perpetrators brought to justice.
