A truck driver on Friday killed two Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers along the Ikot-Ikpene Aba Road in Akwa Ibom State. According to FRSC spokesperson Bisi Kazeem, the driver of a DAF tractor-trailer was speeding and swerved suddenly to avoid a pothole. Unfortunately, his reckless action caused the fatal crash.
FRSC Condemns Reckless Driving and Overspeeding
The Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, strongly condemned the tragedy and blamed it on reckless driving and the violation of speed limits. He explained that many motorists still ignore basic traffic rules, which leads to avoidable deaths on Nigerian roads.
Moreover, Biu emphasized that the Corps would bring the driver to justice and ensure that such dangerous behavior receives strict punishment.
Details of the Crash
Investigations revealed that the collision involved an FRSC patrol vehicle and a white truck. Eight adult males were inside the vehicles. Two officers died instantly, two others suffered serious injuries, while four escaped unharmed.
Rescue teams quickly moved the injured to Ikot-Ikpene–Aba Road General Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the fallen officers were later taken to the hospital mortuary.
FRSC Pledges Tougher Enforcement
Biu expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims. He promised that the FRSC would strengthen enforcement and educate drivers about the dangers of speeding. In his words, “We cannot continue to lose our officers to careless driving. Every driver must take responsibility for safety on the road.”
He urged Nigerians to obey traffic laws, maintain safe speed limits, and report dangerous drivers to the nearest FRSC command. With consistent discipline and awareness, the roads can become safer for everyone.
