Truck driver crushes two FRSC officers to death

A truck driver on Friday ran over two Federal Road Safety Corps officials on the Ikot-Ikpene – Aba stretch of road.

A statement signed by the Corps spokesman, Bisi Kazeem, said the accident was due to excessive speed exhibited by the driver of a DAF tractor-trailer while trying to avoid a pothole on the road.

The Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, lamented the constant clashes with patrol officers as a result of the recklessness of some drivers who constantly violated the legal speed limit.

“He lamented the death of two corps personnel and assured that the corps is determined to apprehend the perpetrators of this deadly act and force them to face the wrath of the law.

“Dauda Biu stated this after a truck driver crushed 2 Federal Road Safety Corps officers to death on Friday, November 25, 2022, on the Ikot-Ikpene – Aba stretch of road.

“The accident occurred due to excessive speed exhibited by the driver of a DAF tractor-trailer while trying to avoid a pothole on the road.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fatal accident involved an FRSC patrol vehicle and a white truck. A total of 8 adult males were injured in the accident, 2 of whom sustained serious injuries and 2 were killed, while the remaining 4 occupants were recovered uninjured.

“The injured were taken to Ikot Ekpene General Hospital and the deceased were buried at the mortuary of the same hospital.

“The Acting Corps Marshal expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the personnel who lost their lives on active duty. At the same time, he assures the public that the Corps is persistent and determined to ensure that the perpetrators of this bad driving culture are forced to face the law or desist from such acts by complying with acceptable traffic safety regulations, as the Corps will not spare anyone who engaged in this deadly act of recklessness on the roads
