Most Mad Nigerians are Youths

A doctor whose name is Aliyhu Abubakar of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, said 85 percent of the mentally deranged in Nigeria today are youths . They are always between the age of 18 to 35. He said.

Generally, in the world 5 percent are mentally deranged with drug disorder as the effect..

The doctor  said that in  Nigeria today ,  about three million bottles of cough syrup containing codeine is consumed daily in Kano State and about six million bottles consumed in the North-West.

Dr Abubakar also said that in 2016, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported that 40 per cent of Nigerian youths engaged in drug-abuse daily. He also said the outcome of drug abuse includes mental disorder.

Dr Abubak added that those usually abusing drugs are mostly those who dropped out of school, those who engage in cultism,  those who indulge in violence and arm-robbery thuggery, rape, lawlessness, murders and are  those that are culturally disorientated.

 He explained that the major cause of mental challenges in Nigeria has gone far beyond drug-abuse as the Nigerian youths now inhale lizard feces, putting their noses into pit toilets, smoking matches, smoking dried horse feces and mixing lizard feces with dye powder.

The medical doctor, Dr Aliyhu Abubakar made the remark in a paper he presented at a sensitization workshop for youths organized by Bizara Youth Development Association in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State entitled: “Drug Abuse in Nigeria: Causes, Effects and Solutions.”

Advice to those who are not engaged is that they should mind the kind of people they mingle with. The girls most especially should be careful as they are also the vitims most times, when they are surrounded by these drug abusers.

Parents should aways play their role, they should always keep in touch with their children , they should no the kind of friends they move around with.
