The verse above was the first thing that came to my mind the two nights ago when someone sent a video of this man that spoke against tithing so seemingly knowledgeably without realising how ignorant his arguments sounded? Who is this that’s questioning knowledge with so much ignorance? Apparently he has been on this crusade for quite sometime from all the Instagram posts the guy showed me.
So sir, “gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me”.
First, can you provide us a copy of that document you obtained from EFCC or ICPC or whoever your informant is, that you have as proof that the so called “big church pastors” used tithe payers money to build a school that the tithe payers themselves can’t go to or afford to send their kids to?
Now to address the major issue as raised by the comptroller general of the non-tithe paying army, Mr Freeze, who has decided to build a campaign to mislead a lot of innocent people by misinforming them deliberately. You know not, neither can you understand and you walk on and revel in your ignorance propelled by envy and bitterness. You quote the Bible so sporadically as a backing for your ignorant research and then come on social media rejoicing like you’ve found the cure for the rot in our society. I’m sorry that the word “ignorant” is going to come very often in this writeup but that’s because that’s what you are, ignorant. And you can forgive me because you called me and my dad and my mum and my siblings and my friends, “goats” first.
I can understand your ignorance though, and I can also understand how you can search the same scriptures that we read and find reasons to pay tithe, and see why people shouldn’t. You’re not the first person to do it. It’s the same Bible that we read and find a loving God that atheists read and find a wicked and incompetent God. The difference in result is not because of any inconsistencies in the Bible, it’s majorly a result of motive. The same way atheists search for loopholes in the scripture so as to keep their devilish agenda in place, is the way you have taken the scripture looking for loopholes so as not to tithe.
Now, about the collection of money for God’s people: Do the same as I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each of you should take some of your money and put it in a special place. Save up as much as you can from what you are blessed with. Then you will not have to gather it all after I come.
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 ERV
I will not try to explain why we tithe to you cos no matter how hard I try, your mind will never be able to grasp it for it’s a practice too advanced in nature for simpletons. However, I will not let you use the Bible for devilish agenda so I will correct all the wrong interpretations you’ve of given Bible verses.
I don’t know where you got that idea from, but a prophet is a prophet and Malachi is one. His book might not be as big as that of Isaiah or Ezekiel, but that doesn’t make him any less of a prophet. So sir, Malachi is not a lesser prophet. As for your claim that the verse is only referring to the priests as beginning from chapter of the book, it says clearly in 3:9, “the whole nation”. That’s the first of your many lies. Second, the verse is not a Nigerian verse, it’s in every Bible all over the world, and it’s not only in Nigeria that tithe is being received, but in every church all over the world. The fact that you think you’re even book-smarter than “80 million” Nigerians and hundreds of millions more outside Nigeria, among whom are doctors, PhD holders, professors etc, confounds me.
Now you may be right to say that Jesus never paid tithes while he was on earth because there’s no actual record of that practice in the gospels, but then those gospels were letters sent to different people for different purposes at that time and there are a lot of things that wasn’t recorded. Was he earning a living?, what do the disciples do?, how do they eat and where does what they eat come from? But to say Jesus spoke in passing rebuking the Pharisees for taking tithes or paying it, that’s another of your lie. The part you quote is in Matthew 23 but I’ll put Matthew 23:23-26 here so you can read and see that he didn’t say they shouldn’t pay tithes, but that they should not neglect one part of the scriptures and only focus on one.
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.”
Well unless you only clean the inside of the cup in your house and leave the outside dirty because Jesus said you should not leave out cleaning the inside. For better understanding, you can read those verses in more contemporary English rendering.
You also talked about the Bible specifying that tithe to be eaten and used to drink beers, another ignorant interpretation which I’m sure it’s so convenient for you to point out because it suites your cause. In your fluent ignorance, you failed to do your research properly to know that the Israelites paid 3 different kinds of tithes, for different purposes at different times.
- The Levitical, or sacred tithe; Leviticus 27:30-32, Numbers 18:21.
- The tithe of feasts; Deuteronomy 14:22-27. This is the one you like and hammer on because it’s selfish just like you. It’s given once a year from all that you’ve acquired in that year and has nothing to do with the Levitical tithe.
- The tithe for the poor (Deut. 14:28, 29). This is the tithe that is given every 3 years and taken to feed poor people and orphans.
I will stop here and let you go back and do your research more properly and then come back and apologize to the people that you have misled. And also, I want to correct you, we are not goats, neither are we fools, we know what we are doing and the money is ours. You can go on giving your money to olamide and davido and psquare to buy private jets while we give ours to pastor Adeboye or pastor Chris or bishop Oyedepo to buy private jets too. We are not crying and I don’t understand why you’re crying for us. Don’t give them your money. Show those wicked pastors that you can read the Bible too. Period.
It’s just ironic that you guys don’t have an issue giving your money to musicians who brag about how many girls they sleep with and how much drugs and weeds they do and encouraging younger generations to do those things, but have an issue with is giving our own money to men who teach virtues and encourage us to be better citizens.
