Secondary Schools Essay Competition Organized by Bayelsa State ,ANA, and NGO
There is a report that Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), the Robert Sunday Iworiso Foundation has unveiled an all Senior Secondary School essay competition in the State. The competition will bring both the private and public secondary schools together to determine the winner.
According to the NGO, the competition is being put together in conjunction with the Bayelsa Ministry of Education and the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and will witness the involvement of a hundred students from both the Private and Public Secondary schools in the State.
While unveiling the competition in Yenagoa, Mr. Michael Afenfia, the Chairman of the Organising Committee Chairman, declared that the winner of the essay competition will go home with a Million naira and other consolation prizes.
Mr John Iworiso, Director of the Foundation said the reason for the competition is to discover and nurture gifted young students in Bayelsa and encourage them to fulfil their potentials.
Mr. John Iworiso believes that, “The competition is one of several ways through which we hope to discover and unleash untapped geniuses from the creeks and farmlands of Bayelsa to the rest of the world.
“We want to engage and inspire these young minds to see themselves as change agents and the true leaders of tomorrow that they are.
“It is important to state that with all that has befallen us as a people, education is the key to the survival and liberation to the Niger Delta”.
Afenfia, who is also the Speech Writer to Bayelsa Governor, Seriake Dickson explained that out of the expected 100 students participants, about 20 of them would be selected from the private schools across the state.
The first edition of the competition, according to Afenfia is slated for Aug. 22 and 23 .
The theme of the competition would be: “Good Leadership: A Prerequisite for Global Relevance”.
