The academy is owned by former great super eagles footballer, Nwankwo Kanu. It was founded in 2001.The academy has strong connections with renowned foreign coaches like Bryan Robson and Gary Smith. This coaches offer the players short courses on football tactics and football in general. Notable graduates of the academy include Joel Obi formerly of Inter Milan, Stanley Okoro who is nicknamed ‘Little Messi”.

Papila football Academy was established in 2012 by Gabriel Newton, a Fifa licensed instructor in partnership with Haruna Abba, AFC won the 2015 FCT Federations Cup,FCT Under 20 football competition in 2013 and many more.

The academy has over 150 footballers and they take footballers between the ages of 15-21 years.
